Apple: The Inside Story of Intrigue, Egomania, and Business Blunders – Jim Carlton

If you like thrillers, then you will love this book. Its not so much about whodunit, that’s there in the book. But more about how it was done. For those who love Apple or are involved in strategy and business development you will be amazed at the brilliance of ideas that came through the ranks, the passion of people, although sometimes misplaced. At the same time, you will also be disgusted and at times feel tortured that so many fantastic opportunities were just thrown away for want of clear decision making and fear.

For everyone who feels the corporate backstabbing and bullshit happens only to you and you alone, get your head out of the sand. The corporate world is a war zone – sweet from a distance and once you get closer, its like every step on a landmine. Everyone goes through their own personal hell. And the higher you go up, the hellish your hell becomes, the lonelier.

One important lesson to learn is : any great company can go to the dumps. What holds it together, even when its teetering over the edge of colossal losses, is the spirit of its employees, customers and people who stand by it simply because they believe in it; believe it can be better; believe the company deserves better.
